Staying Safe in the Sun this Summer

How to Keep Your Skin Happy, Healthy, and Glowing All Summer Long

It’s summertime, and that means the heat is rising, the sun is out, and it’s extra important to take care of our skin and health! While it may be tempting to be carefree during the summer days, your body will thank you for taking a few extra steps to say safe under the sun.  Follow these simple tips below to make sure you stay happy, healthy, and #glowing during the hottest months of the year.

Tip #1: Stay Hydrated

You’ve heard this one before, but it’s true: your body needs extra hydration in the heat! If you’re heading out to the beach, a rooftop, or any outdoor gathering, be sure to bring water with you and to stay hydrated during the duration of the time you’re outside.  Now is a great time to invest in a reusable water bottle (there’s plenty of cute ones available) to carry around with you and refill on the go. This is even more crucial if you’re planning on drinking alcohol in the heat, as alcohol dehydrates you, and if you are planning to exercise outside this summer.

Tip #2: Don’t Skimp on Sunscreen

There are plenty of sunscreen formulations out there, so it’s easy to find one that is a perfect fit for you. If you dislike the oily feel and shiny appearance of many sunscreens, there are matte, and even powder, options.  If you dislike wearing sunscreen on your face because you have broken out in the past, try switching over to a sunscreen that is meant for your delicate facial skin.  A tinted facial sunscreen is a great option for someone looking for some coverage in addition to SPF.  Once you find a sunscreen you like, it’s not enough to just apply it before you head out into the sun; reapply according to the directions of your particular sunscreen. Unfortunately, most sunscreens do not have all-day staying power and need to be reapplied to keep you optimally safe in the sun.

Tip #3:  Wear a Hat

If you are someone who often gets sunburned on your face, or you just want to be extra careful about protecting your delicate facial skin, try wearing a cute floppy beach hat or even an easy baseball cap to wear under the sun.  This will help you stay extra protected under the sun’s rays and keep the sun out of your eyes as an added bonus.

#RaniFam, we hope you have an amazing summer and 4th of July, whether that means relaxing self-care or exhilarating adventures!
